Evidence-based care involves regularly reviewing and implementing the most recent research available on particular conditions, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations. It works best when it is combined with clinical expertise as well as the client’s goals and preferences. The practices and protocols of individual facilities may be evidence-based, but a nurse should stay current with professional journals and other resources on his or her own as well.
