suffixes

A suffix is a meaningful word part added to the end of a root word to create a new word and can help a reader understand an unfamiliar word. In the examples provided, -ment means an action, state, or condition of, as in measurement, development, or advertisement; -ship means a position held, like membership, friendship, or dictatorship; and -able means tending to or being capable of, as in agreeable, affordable, or believable.
