The four types of line slopes are determined by the direction and steepness of the line, with the rise (vertical movement) divided by the run (horizontal movement):

• positive slope—The line rises as it moves from left to right.

• negative slope—The line falls as it moves from left to right.

• zero slope—The line is horizontal, with no rise or fall.

• undefined slope—The line is vertical, with no horizontal movement, resulting in an undefined ratio of rise to run.
