Acute pulmonary edema is caused by conditions like acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and pulmonary embolism. Chronic pulmonary edema often results from long-term illnesses such as chronic kidney disease or neurogenic pulmonary edema. HAPE occurs at high elevations due to low oxygen levels and can cause fluid accumulation in the lungs. Each type requires different management strategies depending on the underlying cause.
