Exam information

What you need to know about the CompTIA Network+

The CompTIA Network+ exam assesses your knowledge and skills concerning all aspects of network operation. The 90 questions on the exam are taken from these broad areas, each shown with its approximate percentage of exam coverage:

1.0 Networking Fundamentals—24%
2.0 Network Implementations—19%
3.0 Network Operations—16%
4.0 Network Security—19%
5.0 Network Troubleshooting—22%

There are no separate test sections, and you may find questions from any of these realms throughout the exam.

Most CompTIA Network+ exam questions will be in a typical multiple-choice format, but there are some performance-based questions (PBQs), as well. A PBQ utilizes simulations as part of the question prompt. These simulations may feature interactive presentations you will use to answer the question. There will be an option to reset progress if you wish to correct your answer, and you may move on and come back to a PBQ. It will save your progress, and there is the possibility of partial credit for these questions.
