How to Do Well on the Georgia Real Estate Exam
The Georgia Real Estate Salesperson Examination is required by the Georgia Real Estate Commission to obtain a real estate license in the state of Georgia. Passing the exam is the first step in becoming a licensed real estate salesperson in Georgia.
What is on the Georgia Real Estate Exam?
PSI administers the Georgia Real Estate Salesperson Examination. Testing must be done in-person at a PSI testing center and is available Monday through Friday between 9:00-12:00 and 2:00-4:45. A licensing fee of $170 will be collected at the time of examination, and you must obtain a score of at least 75% to receive your license.
The exam consists of 152 multiple-choice questions divided into two parts. One hundred questions deal with national real estate law, covering a range of topics divided into eleven categories, including contracts, financing, and leasing, as well as property ownership, valuations, and disclosures. Five of the 100 questions are pilot questions that do not count towards your final score but will not be identified when you take the exam. Georgia Salesperson Supplement Portion
The Georgia Salesperson Supplement Examination portion deals with real estate law specific to Georgia. The 52 state-level questions will be mixed in with the national-level questions, so you will not be able to identify one portion from another easily. Types of Questions on the Exam
While all the questions on the exam are in multiple-choice format, they test your knowledge in different ways. There are three different types of questions on the exam: recall, application, and analysis.
Recall questions test your recall of facts, terms, and concepts. These questions may ask you to name a specific term or concept, such as the definition of a word or the year of an event.
Application questions require you to apply knowledge to a new situation. You might be given a scenario and asked to choose the appropriate response or demonstrate the ability to problem-solve in light of a changing situation.
Analysis questions test your ability to analyze and evaluate a situation. The most complex of the three questions types, analysis questions may ask you to identify patterns, draw conclusions, or identify the most effective solution to a problem.
What are the Eligibility Requirements for the Georgia Real Estate Salesperson Exam?
You must meet specific requirements before you register to take the Real Estate Salesperson Exam in Georgia. You can apply to take the exam once you have fulfilled one of the following:
Successful completion of an approved 75-hour Real Estate Salesperson’s pre-licensure course. If you recently moved to Georgia, completing a 75-hour pre-licensure course in other states or Canada may also meet this requirement.
Successful completion of 6 hours of real estate-related coursework at an accredited university or college in the United States or Canada. The courses must have been part of a major in real estate or earned from a school of law. Not all classes or schools meet the requirements, so you must submit your transcripts when applying for the exam.
How to Do Well on the Georgia Real Estate Salesperson Exam
The Georgia Salesperson Real Estate Exam is moderately challenging, with many students reporting the need to study for several weeks to pass the exam. However, you can definitely pass the exam on your first attempt with dedication and hard work. Below are some tips to help you do well on test day:
Study: This may seem obvious, but it’s crucial to devote plenty of time to studying the material covered on the exam. Unlike a math or English test where you may be able to guess the best answer easily, the Georgia Real Estate Salesperson exam requires specialized knowledge and critical thinking. Review study guides and read through the material multiple times. Cramming the material in one or two sessions is less effective than studying in multiple sessions over a long period, so begin reviewing the material well before your exam date.
Attend a review course or join a study group. In-person classes or study groups will allow you to review the material with others and discuss any questions or topics you may need clarification on. Find a study partner and hold each other accountable for learning the material. If you know anyone who recently took the exam, it is worth asking what they found difficult or surprising so you can modify your study plan.
Practice: Take practice exams to get used to the format of the real estate exam and the types of questions that will be asked. If you’re running short on time, flashcards can also be a helpful way to study for the recall question types you’ll encounter.
Plan ahead. Review the candidate handbook to be sure you know the ins and outs of test day. Make sure you have all the items you need to bring so you’re not left stressed and scrambling the morning of your exam. You may not be able to take the exam if you’re more than 15 minutes late, so give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the testing site.
