Analogies, metaphors, and similes are frequently confused; however, each has its own facets, separating it from the others. A simile is a comparison using the words like or as. A metaphor is a comparison without either of these words and usually contains descriptive language. An analogy compares two things using a similar feature of each and is most often used to teach a lesson or illustrate a point.
