Question 7 - Analytical Writing Practice Test for the GMAT

When proofreading, what is the main error that should be corrected in this paragraph?

First, the author makes a faulty assumption. He or she makes the assumption that the only reason for the decrease in profits is the addition of more offices. In reality, Apogee Company could have made less money for any number of reasons. Perhaps a dip in the economy caused businesses everywhere to make less money. Perhaps the products or services offered by Apogee became outdated. It could even be the simple case of market fluctuations that caused profits to decrease. Basically, the author never proves that opening new offices is the only reason Apogee Company began to make less money.
