Rational numbers can be expressed as the ratio of two integers. Irrational numbers cannot be expressed as the ratio of two integers.
\(3.5\) is rational because \(\frac{7}{2} = 3.5\) \(\sqrt{2}\) is irrational: it cannot be represented as a ratio of two integers
